1. Introduction
Oasis of Peace ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of children, families, donors, volunteers, and visitors who interact with our school, children's home, and online services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.
By using our website or providing information to us, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you fill out a contact form, sign up to volunteer, make a donation, or apply to enroll a child. This may include your name, email address, phone number, postal address, and payment details.
If — and only if — you choose “Accept” on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (for example which pages are read most, and whether people find what they came for). It tells us about visits in aggregate; we do not use it for advertising and we do not build profiles of your browsing elsewhere. Nothing is sent to Google until you accept, and you can withdraw your consent at any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer (see “Cookies” below).
We run no advertising trackers of any kind. Basic technical information (such as your IP address) may also be processed transiently by our hosting provider to deliver and secure the site, in line with standard web-server operation.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: respond to inquiries; process donations and issue receipts; coordinate volunteer and sponsorship programs; communicate updates about our work; improve our website and services; and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Sharing of Information
We may share your information with trusted service providers who help us operate our website, process payments, or send communications, only to the extent necessary to perform those services.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights, or to safeguard the welfare of children in our care.
5. Children's Privacy
We take special care to protect the privacy and dignity of the children we serve. Photographs, stories, and identifying details about children are only published with the appropriate consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through our website.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of the personal information we hold about you. You may also opt out of marketing communications at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions in our emails or by contacting us directly.
8. Cookies
A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. We keep our use of cookies to a minimum and do not use them to track you across other websites. When you first visit, a banner lets you Accept or Reject non-essential cookies — no optional cookies are set until you accept, and essential cookies are only ever used to make the site work. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer, or through your browser settings. The cookies and similar technologies we may use are:
| Cookie / technology | Purpose | Category | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHPSESSID | Keeps you signed in to a staff or admin account | Strictly necessary | Set only after you log in; expires when your session ends. Not used for general visitors. |
| Theme preference | Remembers your light or dark mode choice | Functional | Stored in your browser's local storage on your device — it is not sent to our servers. |
| cookie_consent | Remembers your cookie choice | Strictly necessary | So we don't ask again on every visit. Kept for about 90 days, after which we ask you afresh. |
| Paystack | Secure donation processing | Third-party (payment) | Set only when you make a donation, by our payment provider Paystack, to complete the transaction. |
| Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) | Understanding how the site is used | Optional (consent required) | Set by Google Analytics only after you choose “Accept” on the cookie banner, to count visits and see which pages are useful. Choosing “Reject” at any time removes them. |
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Significant changes will be communicated through our website or other appropriate channels.
10. Contact Us
